"Painting is complete as a distraction. I know of nothing which, without exhausting the body, more entirely absorbs the mind. Whatever the worries of the hour or the threats of the future, once the picture has begun to flow along, there is no room for them in the mental screen. They pass out into shadow and darkness. All one's mental light, such as it is, becomes concentrated on the task. Time stands respectfully asside." Winston Churchill Painting as a Pastime, 1950
These are the paintings of a dedicated weekend painter. I have spent the last 15 years, as Churchill would say. "letting time stand respectfully asside". Knowing that even if I never make it the art world, it has been a great experience. Painting has opened up a new world for me and has filled many hours of my life with joy. I hope you like my art and think about painting yourself.

This is a painting I did of the young Ernest Hemmingway that depicts him when he was serving in the Itailian Red Cross During WWI. I painted this from a small photo of Hemmingway which I seen on one of his websites. I hope to exhibit this painting at the Oak Park Art league during the Hemmingway Centenial next year in Oak Park, Illinois. Hemmingway called Oak Park his home town when he was a young lad. Oak Park is also home to the Hemmingway museum.
